email 3/27/1999:
A couple of days ago I posted information about a web site that contains
information about Elijah Mayfield married to Amelia Gillaspie. I said Ihad
written the person. I have heard back and am quite fascinated! However,I
don't feel competent enough myself to ask the right questions so wouldlike to
enlist your aid. He has documented this family through the years and itis
NOT Elijah born June 10, 1762 and I believe he has the proof. He said it
would be easier to respond to specific requests for information and he'smore
than willing to share and to give his sources. Soooo, please let me knowwhat
questions would be most helpful in sorting out these two families who have
been inadvertently blended it seems. Elijah b. June 10, 1762 was mostlyin
Hickman County, TN. This one married to Amelia Gillaspie was mostly in
Williamson County, TN. They may very well be related in some way not yet
known, but it is important to get the information straight so that thesetwo
families can be accurately presented. It made it confusing I think forthem
to be so closely located. I know that there has been some discussionabout
this in the past, but it seems like a good time to reopen the discussion,so
I'm really pleading for your help. I think it means a lot to a lot ofpeople.

Another issue -- Elijah b. June 10, 1762, according to the Hickman County
censuses had a wife his age clear up to and including the 1840 census so I
believe this is his correct wife. I personally believe the Hickman County
History book may have been accurate in identifying her as Elizabeth. Ialso
have a weak but possible theory on her identity. I was wondering ifanyone
has an Elizabeth Mayfield dying anywhere after 1843 - but as she was 80 -90
in 1840 - probably not within a great deal of time after that. She couldhave
moved in with any one of her children so could be just about anywhere. I
would think likely places might be in Tennessee, Indiana or Illinois.Perhaps
narrowing that down would help. If we could find her, maybe we couldfind a
will or grave or something. I feel stupid asking this, but does anyoneknow
where Elijah is buried? I'm writing off the top of my head and I'mdrawing a
blank.

One caveat....I am relying on information provided by someone else who has
researched this (and quite thoroughly it appears), but I have NOT seen itfor
myself, so want to leave room for possible inaccuracies in the info.

Hope someone will respond.
Donna
